Advocate or Complain... you tell me??

The City of Memphis is a great place to live. When I first moved to Memphis, however, You could not convince me otherwise. It is not until I started becoming involved that I started taking pride in my city. I would complain about the crime, I would complain about the schools, I would complain about the neighborhoods. I was one of the many complainers that exist among us today. and at that moment.... I had an Ah-Ha moment.. That very moment, I chose to do something to empower others.

I started ADVOCATING.... And I have loved every moment of it... There are many styles of advocating... You don't have to be overly brass to be a good advocate.. In fact, to be effective... you really need to know whom are those in which you are advocating to? Who is your audience? do they hold your same views? ... what are the personality types sitting around the table? How do you best reach consensus for all? Should you compromise your position? Being a good advocate is getting your point across to all.. it's about making changes.. (POSITIVE CHANGES) It's about encouraging, convincing, and coaching others to accept your views.

Tell me... What is your definition of a good Advocate? and what kind of Advocate are you?

Are you someone who gets the job done regardless? Are you one who does not care whose toes you step on to get what you want? Is it someone who grandstands? Is it someone who delegates to others?

You tell me!!

When was your Ah-Ha moment? or are you still waiting for that moment to arrive?

Its good to know there are people with a positive outlook for this city and have the desire to step in and make it happen. I admire Commissioner Gatewood’s energy and straightforward way of dealing with the problems of this city. Who could imagine that that wooded area behind Raleigh Egypt School called the “cut” (where children were hiding out doing who knows what during and after school) would be cleared in a matter of a couple of months by Stephanie Gatewood and crew. It really is time for new ideas and positive change. We need more people who are willing to make the changes needed instead of the prestige of just holding the position while doing what they really like while we suffer through another election cycle.

WE NEED STEPHANIE GATEWOOD AS CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 1.

I met Ms. Gatewood in Chicago at a Educational Conference. From the moment I met her I knew she was someone special, a leader, a Christian, and a person who makes a difference in the lives she touches. I think Memphis will be blessed to have Ms. Gatewood in a leadership role on their City Council.

Stephanie Gatewood is amazing. She is the Lord's grace in action. If Memphians will follow her lead, our city will unite in love for one another. This will raise respect for our diversity while defining our strengths and needs, thereby empowering us to mobilize our talents for our most important tasks at hand. There's much work to be done, starting with public safety, education, and the economy. Ms. Gatewood leads by example. I encourage everyone to spread the word about her willingness to serve ethically, morally, and unselfishly. Support Ms. Gatewood and find through her the inspiration to make your personal contribution to our city.
